The beautification of our highways in Nevada is important as positive visual impression greatly improves the quality of life for our communities and aid our tourist based economy. NDOT has a policy in place providing a percentage of the construction cost for landscape and aesthetic work. This policy applies to capacity improvement projects such as upgrading interchanges, widenings, roundabouts, bridges and any new facilities we own.
On the State owned freeways and highways (NDOT) facilities, we are implementing the Landscape and Aesthetics Master Plan and have been since about 2002. Some of our facilities are older than that, but we are allocating budget towards these older interchanges to improve the aesthetic quality. We have a lot of work to do to catch up, and hopefully in the future have all our urban corridors beautified, as well as our rural towns, this is our goal.
